A Race Season Wrap-Up
On November 3, thousands of racers toed the line for the New York City Marathon. The week prior, athletes from all over the world vied for a golden ticket to the Western States 100 Miler at the Javelina Jundred in Fountain Hills, Arizona. These two races, despite sharing many apparent differences, also had much in common. Chiefly, they both took place towards the end of the competitive outdoor running season, and that hundreds of competitors donned their Naked Running bands to support their efforts.
In Squamish, British Columbia in August, Marcus Ribi crossed the finish line in first place at the Squamish 50 Miler in an impressive 7:17:54 to win the race and secure his place on the Canadian trail running team headed to the 2025 World Championships. Marcus ran a strong race from the starting gun, evidenced by his 15+ minute lead over the second place finisher, and second fastest time in course history.
In Arizona, at the Javelina Jundred 100 miler, David Roche took the win, Jeff Mogavero 2nd and Dan Green secured 3rd place in the Men’s race, while Riley Brady took 1st place and Hannah Allgood secured 2nd place in the Women’s race. All of them wearing the Naked Band, ensuring that they all had the essentials close at hand for all 5 loops of the grueling course. What a day!
For ultra distance events with frequent aid stations and refueling opportunities, Naked Running bands provide a perfect solution for carrying essentials while minimizing unwanted weight and bulk. Weighing in at only 2.3 oz, runners can easily access and re-stash gels, bars or soft flasks in conveniently partitioned mesh pockets at any point, without having to fumble around with zippers or clasps mid-stride. Once they arrive at an aid station, refueling is as simple as grabbing empty wrappers from around their waists, repacking fresh fuel and hydration, and setting off on the trail again. And with secure race number attachments, race plates can remain affixed to their waists and out of mind without the use of pins or velcro.
